Switching oil tank on a 90 Fat Boy
I am replacing my stock painted oil tank for a chrome one. Just wanted to know if there is anything I should watch out for when I do it. I saw that the existing clamps on the oil lines on the tank are metal bands that I am not familiar with. I guess you just cut these off and replace with standard screw type hose clamps? Thanks for any tips.
Bill

The Fat Boy wrap around oil tank has plug in oil lines unless yours has been modified or something . There's an HD tool and a universal line release tool that gets the stock line to release from the tank . The tool fits around the line right at the tank and releases a plastic clip inside the tank bung .

You can get a set of AC Line tools at Sears Hardware that will remove the oil lines real easy. They're cheap too...

So, a standard hose clamp won't work? If not, then
you have to buy a tool from H.D. to do the deed? Sounds a lot like I am working on my VW Golf.

The chrome tank you're going to put in , if new , probably doesn't have the line adapters installed so you'll have to purchase them separately . The Sears tool will work just fine too .

yeah the tank is new and I am talking about the two small lines at the bottom of the tank. The other two larger lines I can't see. The oil pump just has standard hose clamps on it.

Ya the bottom lines ( hidden ones ) are " oiteker " clamps and can be replaced with screw hose clamps . You'll still have to get the line release tool to get the oil line out of the tank though . Sears hardware stores all over the place .
Does your tank have 2 oil lines going into the right hand upper part of the tank ?

No, all the oil lines are located at the bottom of the tank. Three of them look to be 1/4" to 3/8" in dia. and are located on the bottom of the tank directly below the oil fill inlet. Two of these point forward and go to the oil pump the third points to the left side of the tank. The fourth is maybe 1/2" dia. tube that is on the right bottom of the tank and also points to the left side of the tank. All of them have a swell in the tubing at the end of the line.

Ok , I didn't remember if the older Fat Boys had the top hard lines or not so you won't need the line release tool after all . All the clamps can be replaced with screw type clamps . The lines are : feed , return , vent and drain .
