I may end up buying the H-D chrome engine guard (49200-07A). I can get it from Zanotti's for about $175, which includes shipping, which is a bit cheaper than the $209 that H-D wants. I just thought that a black guard would look better.
Lindby wants about $240 + shipping for their black guard.

I know Rockerbox and Blackdog 15 both have that brand engine guard and it looks good on their bikes, you might PM them for more details.

I have the chrome Lindby, it is a nice piece, very well made. I have not needed it yet, thank God, but it looks good on there, and is a great place to mount highway pegs

Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated. I went ahead and ordered the chrome H-D engine guard from Zanotti's.

You can always get the guard powdercoated....
I've powdercoated several pieces on my bike that were only available chrome.

I'm going to see what the chrome guard looks like. There is some chrome scattered over the Night Train so it may look OK. But I will definitely keep your suggestion in mind. While I care about looks, I'm more concerned with the function -- but hope I never get to see how well it protects.

I would love to see what it looks like after you install it. I may consider one for my Night Train as well. I prefer to keep a bare bones approach where possible but an engine guard is good insurance.
