Yep. Not uncommon for an early 90s bike. One to one and a half year waiting period for a big twin from Harley then which spawned a generation of HDs built by shops with all running gear and aftermarket frames. I helped build one myself.
Even at that, a 1996 softail is worth the same with an OEM frame or a quality Paughco frame.
What numbers are on the engine or title?

You guys may have solved this mystery. I'll post that engine number tomorrow. Any thoughts on why the OEM engine guard for the bike won't fit? I truly appreciate your help guys. Dave

Yes, because you have an aftermarket frame.

International models (Including Canada) start with "5HD".
US models start with "1HD".
My 2010 International Road Glide Custom came with the "regular" taill light assembly and not the normal Custom ones like the US models. It also came with the speedometer in Km.
IIRC, there is another designation for Japan models. I don't know if the serial numbers are different though.

MY older 99 doesn't have the "five" and it was sold to Canada. SEE POST #8 that's what HD computer spits out when you run my VIN.
I does have the KM speedo as noted in #8...

Here's a shot of the original build sheet for my bike. Ordered from Ottawa Canada and shipped to my dealer here in Ottawa.
I covered up the last 2 digits.
I specifically asked my sales guy for this sheet or the deal was off....
Kind of cool to have. Anyways... kinda on topic for a change...

Why you guys covering the vins?? Anyone walking by your parking lot could just read the vin anyway so your not really helping anything...
Anyhow, vins are always good to look at with used vehicles. If you run it and it comes back that the vehicle should be a different model or have different colors...run!!!

Same reason some cover their tags, we don't want you to know where we live...
