Starter acting up

2007 Softail Deluxe with 6500 miles. Twice the starter made a noise like the bendix did not engage fully, started normally after that. Both times it happened after a brief hop to get gas. Any thoughts?

my 98 fatty does the same thing from time to time, I just shrug it off and forget about it

When you stop for a short time, the bike actually increases in internal engine temps, because the airflow stopped. Preingnition on restarting it can cause the funky starting issue. In most cases with twinkies, it's already hot, and guys adding pipes to it with no upgraded fuel delivery only makes it hotter.

Run higher grade gasoline, if you're not already.
