A few questions!!

Hey guys Im 20, and Im looking at a 03 and up Sportster 1200.

I currently ride a 03 CBR600RR, Sportbike. Ive always liked the way sportsters looked and I was planning on buying a new bike this summer.

The more I look at these bikes the more Im thinking about trading in the sportbike for a cruiser.

My stepdad used to have a Road King? Or something like that but had to sell it and is buying another one sometime this summer as well.

Not looking for new, preferably used.

So just had some questions on how they ride, any complaints on them? How do they ride on the interstate like RPM wise, my bike rides at 70mph at 6k rpms and its kinda loud sometimes LOL.

I dont really do anything over 80, ever... I do ride the wheelie every now and then and I know I wont be able to do that with a HD LOL!! I think thats the one thing I'll miss about the sportbike but Im sure the cruiser is so much easier to ride and easier on your back right?

Thanks everyone!!!

Edit, two more questions!
1) Long as I take care of her how long will she last motor wise, Ive put 2k miles on my bike in about 2 months..
2) Ive seen these nice looking all black sportsters what years are those do they come in the 1200?

Thanks

Ok regarding the years you mention the last big difference in Sportsters came with the 04 rubber isolated engines, 03's and earlier are in theory vibrators.

havnt checked but if this is your first post ,please post an intro in "new to community" section

I went from a sport bike to a cruiser and I love it, a whole lot better on my back and neck and wrist. As for the sportster I love mine I have a 1200L and never have any problems on the interstates, matter of fact like riding better on them then the roads we have around were I live. I have rode my sportster from Maryland to Florida and had no problem at all. Matter of fact we are planning another ride there next year. Hope this helps

Youngblood, to address your questions:

A 1200 Sportster turns approximately 3500 RPM at 70mph, the noise depends on the exhaust. No problem riding 80, they will exceed 110-115 no problem.

A 2004 or newer is rubber mounted and quite smooth.

No problem doing wheelies with a 1200, they won't all throttle up, but clutching them up is no problem at all. Also burnouts.

The all black 1200 is the XL1200N, the Nightster. It comes in colours other than black, but they al have the blacked out engine etc.

Any other questions let me know.

2007 was the first Nightster model year. Sorry our Canadian prices are higher, so can't help ya there.

Redline is 6250. They have a rev limiter, yes they are belt. Belt is good up to around 100HP. A 1200 after 2004 with stage one is around 75HP, so that include nightster.

Try here: www.xlforums.net just Sportsters, and a few very knowledgable guys as well..
