Oil Blow-by

I have 74 Ironhead that has oil blow-by coming from a hose under the rear of the engine. Is this hose supposed to be connected to something? Oil leaks from engine not a big issue, but every time I start it, I get oil shooting out. Any ideas???

if it's the "tube" I think you are talking about, it should be coming from the under side of the front right side of the motor (xlh) is a vent tube, a crankcase vent.
you will almost always have aslight amount of blown oil from there upon start-up. if you let the bike sit too long, the oil will drain from the tank to the crank case, and when you start the bike, it looks for the easiest way out of the case, that means the vent tube. poor design in the oil delivery system, but it's just one of the gremlins associated with an ironhead
