Starting problems

Hi Everyone my name is Ken and I have a 1999 883 with a1200 kit……When I ride the bike runs and idles grate but after the bike is warmed up usually after a long ride I have a problem starting it again….. it seems like it’s out of time and after 15 min of trying to start it once again it fires and I’m ready to go……Could it be the Vacuum Operated Electrical Switch (VOES) Sticking Closed???? Can Anyone HELP!! Thanks!!!

Like Schmidty said: Ignition pick-up, or the coil. Both are indicative with working, getting hot, not working then cooling and working again.

There's a coil test procedure in the Sticky section of the Technical threads.

If the VOES went bad, the bike would likely feel like it lost power, or was running doggy.

You can test the pickup with a hairdryer too . Take off the pickup cover , probably have to drill out the blind rivets, then with the engine ideling heat the pickup ( don't melt it ) with the hairdryer . If the engine starts to cut out the pickup is bad .
