New owner/Newbie questions

Hello,

I am a very proud owner of a 2005 883 Custom bike as of this week. It has about 4,800 miles on it and in great shape.

I am looking to see if there is an online parts, add-ons reliable site where I can order parts like back rest, windshield etc.

I am also noticing a lot of vibration and a loud gear shift. Is that normal for Sportsters and can the vibration be reduced?

Thanks in advance and please go easy as this is my first post

Welcome.

Don't know about online places. Some others here are sure to be able to help you.

With regards to the noise and vibration, that only happens when your Sportster is running. Other than that they're very quiet.

You'll get used to the noises. Best way to do that is put on a load of miles as soon as you can!

Post pics too, we like pics!

Having had my 03 883 Custom for a little over a month, I think the comment that it only vibrates and makes loud noises when it is running is about as true as it gets.

Your Bike

Welcome from SoCal, congrats on the new bike. No loud noises and vibrations arent normal for a bike like yours with such low miles.Has it been serviced lately?Take the bike to a good indy shop and have them check it out.

Thank to all who replied, specially your suggestion on Service. I am inching closer to a 5,000 mile recommended service and I do plan to take it to a reputable dealer to get it serviced. Thanks for seconding my thoughts.

For all the DIYers, what kind of oil would you replace for NC climate in 05' 883c? In reading the manual, it is calling for 10w40, 15w40 or 20w40. I would love to hear from experience.

ALso, I cannot find any specifications on transmission fluid. What are the specs and where would one buy it, if I had to replace on my own? I am weighing my options as it looks very simple to change both.

Might do the 2 oil changes and let the shop do all other maintenances and check for that vibration.

Thanks for being helpful. I truly apreciate it.

1825 miles,,Vibrates when sitting still Like a 71 Cuda with a 3/4 cam.
Get er movin and she smoothes right out.
Tranny shifts are way more solid than any metric i ever had.
That Vibration at idle makes me think im sittin on a pissed off Pit Bull.
When I roll it on Its more like a wild Mustang just waitin
for me to screw up so she can buck me off.
Yep Its true,,,Once you buy Milwaukee Iron you cant go back. XD

Sportsters are loud by nature, and so is shifting gears, I wouldn't worry about it unless it gets worse

J&P Cycles and Dennis Kirk SUCK!!! All they do is buy off of companies like Drag Specialties and sell it for full retail pricing, If it were me and you wanted OEM Harley parts, check out Chicago Harley-Davidson and get yourself set up, they give a 20% discount, if you want aftermarket, find yourself a nice small aftermarket shop, they will discount.
