Sportster Questions
I just picked up a set of Screamin Eagle slip ons. Do I need to do anything to the carbs before/when I put them on?
Also, what are the goods and bads of putting an aftermarket (Screamin Eagle) ignition on?
2002 1200 by the way. Thanks all.

Hey Eric, welcome to the Forums.
I don't know much about the carb bikes.. I've only owned one of those sissy efi bikes, ha. So, i don't have much advice to offer.
However, stop by the new member section and introdice yourself, post a pic of your bike (we like pictures!) and everyone will be more than glad to jump and offer up a lot of advice.

You may have to rejet the carb, all bikes are different, best thing to do is put the slip-ons on and take her for a ride see if it back fires at all and check the plugs, if they are white then you are running to lean and need to rejet the carb. The bikes run a little lean from the factory to begin with, if you have to rejet it will most likely only be the slow jet.

Add a larger pilot jet for the pipes, and drill out the a/f mixture adjustment screw.
SE Ignition module raises the RPM rev limiter from 5200 to 6000 (or 6200) and has a slightly "different" timing curve, allegedly.
I had one on my carbed Dyna and didn't feel any difference, accept thehigher rev limiter.

I put the Screamin Eagles on and took it for a ride. It did not backfire at all, sounded great, but seemed to have a little less torque. Could just be my imagination, I suppose. I forgot to look at the plugs when I got back, though.

The new slip ons are less restrictive than the stock mufflers.Put a bigger breather on it and you will get back all the torque and then some.I put Cycle Shack slash cuts and a K&N air filter kit (needed a 44 slo jet) and it went like a raped ape.

I have a 2001 hugger and I put the screaming eagle high flow air box on it and Rush mufflers with 2" baffles. My slow jet had to be bumped to a 52 because it ran so lean it coughed so hard and ran so badly. Now it runs good. I'm gonna get it dynoed in the spring.

Thanks guys. It's at the shop getting new rubber right now, so he is gonna make sure all is well, then I'll probably have him dyno tune it in the spring (when I'm done with winter mods).
