transmision question clutch ?
my 2001 sportster has developed a problem shifting mainly downshifting,i pull the clutch lever in to downshift and i can feel the linkage going into gear when i let out the clutch lever out the transmision grinds and sounds like the shifters jumping around.i took my bike to the hd dealer to look at it 15 minutes latter they said its fine its not the clutch or tranny.they said might be the shift fork is wore out the bike has 28k miles on it.i have a extended waranty the dealer acts like its the way i ride ive owned harley sporters and other than harleys before.any ideas would be helpfull almost tempted to get a owners manual and adjust the clutch myself

Getting an owner's manual and adjusting the clutch yourself is good advice.
Your dealer obviously is giving you the blow-off, and a shift fork wearing out at 28K is not the norm, considering I have 34K on my Dyna, and it shifts like butta.....
Another thing.... you might want to not only adjust the clutch cable yourself, but the basket that contains the plates as well. It's not that hard to do.
Then, change the fluid in the primary/trans to a better, synthetic fluid, and chances are, the issue is not a worn shift fork, and it can be corrected easily.
Then you can go tell your dealer to go shift fork themselves.......

Because your trans and clutch run in the same fluid, Synthetic makes a big difference in Sportsters.

im with Dave there but, if its under warranty id find another Dealer its getting to be amazing at the dealers that dont want to work on a bike anymore . i do all my own work but the stories i hear . best thing to do is buy a good manual then study it then do your own work . talking about warranty work . i bought a used car once it had a warranty. damn thing acted up before i got it home they wouldnt fix it .. so i says ok i got the car pulled it up right out front they asked what i was doing ? i told em` i was gonna burn the damn thing then tell everyone they were a bunch of lying a**holes..... ( they fixed the car )

thanks im just frustrated with the dealer i just got the bike a month ago its been in the shop 5 times ive only put 500 miles on it.first time in the shop the tach quit working, second time the bike left me on the side of the road petcock had to be replaced the researve wasnt working the screen broke off so no reserve.the third time in was for the 500 mile free oil change, next day i came out to take the bike to work had a big puddle of oil under the bike on the garage floor the
dealer cam and got the bike said the oil drain hose had a hole in it
its old,and my rear rocker box is leaking oil,and they didnt have the parts they were going to call me its been two weeks no call.i took the bike in today 5th time for trans issues they think im crazy.
i might not be normal but who is.i just want the bike to run right ive replaced the fuel line it was rotten.the vacum lines they were rotten and leaking.plugs and wires and gas cap the cap was leaking fuel on turns
