Oil coming from headgasket?

Did I just blow a head gasket?

There is oil seeping and leaking from the head gasket and is leaking on letting it drip on the starter. Also is spraying a light mist on the oil tank.

Also,
Would this cause me to be down about 7 or 8 HP?

Sounds like it... but you said dripping on the starter and misting on the tank.
That doesn't sound like it.
Was there work done on it recently? I'm asking because a common issue is installing the rocker box cover gasket. If it is inverted and installed improperly, it will blow oil as you described.

How are you determining the 7-8 hp loss?

To determine if the gasket is in wrong… take a flash light and look real close at the leading edge of each cover (the edge in the front of each jug) the gasket will be protruding about of an inch. If it is… it is in wrong.

Here are some pics of it. There is plenty of smoke being made as the engine gets hot with the oil soaked back side of cylinder. It is the cylinder closest to the seat.

Looking on the bright side, if that's what it turns out to be,

...Sounds like a good time to do some head work..

A compression test will determine if the head gasket is gone. Let it cycle a few times to determine what the highest pressure is… and compare it to the other.

but check that rocker box cover gasket (the top or first gasket from the top), in the front of each jug.

That's your rocker box gasket. About an hour job to replace. Doesn't look like the head gasket is blown to me. If the head gasket was blown it wouldn't leak upwards . All of the oil is coming from the rocker gasket and dripping down.

a rocker box gasket doesn't blow. there isn't any real pressure there. only blow by pressure from the ring gaps. that's why I asked... if any work was done on it?

Rocker gaskets...is there a venting problem ? EVOs will leak bad if the head vents are plugged or no vent bolt installed....on 92 and later...
