IMHO Sportsters are the reason HD is in business today and not just another Indian/Vincent/etc. memory.
Had a '50 pan I could not ride anymore when I bought it, (they weigh too much for me now) and love my Sporty as a daily ride.

When I got my Harley I was 20 years old and I wanted a Street Bob really bad, but when I went in to buy it I didn't have enough credit to finance for it. And fore I wanted a Harley since I was 3 and I wasn't gonna settle for anything less so at the time an 883 is all I could get and now I kinda love the sportster I am defiantly gonna do a 1200 swap. But the point is it price is what allowed me to get my first Harley

I have the 883 Iron, Denim model. I love it I get a lot of comments on it because it is flat black. I have it for sale now so I can jump up a couple of sizes. Maybe to a Softail, Blackline.

Keep the Sporty if you can and buy the big twin.
That way you can still go fast with great maneuverability on the Sporty around town;
ride long distance on the big twin and have the best of both worlds.

Genevieve Schmitt, of Women Riders Now dot com sez her Street Glide is a girls bike.

&* the AIM Jan 2011 issue, p26, her column cites a Gloria T* who is, at 85, still riding a Heritage Softail Classic, which is thus an old lady's bike.

Harley makes the 883 to keep them in business ... so they can continue to build those overweight overpriced underpowered big twins.
(which are also fine motorcycles for the many women, and men, who ride them)

A bike is a bike. Harley manufactures bikes. I laugh at those comments about being a girls bike or it's not a Harley. Whatever man. Who cares anyway. If a person gets on their bike whatever it is and enjoys the ride then right on. Too much emphasis on what you ride. It should be about THAT you ride
