1983 sportster new owner

I am strongly considering purchasing this motorcycle. 10,000 original miles. not pristene but real nice shape. no damage. no major add ons. What are the things I should look for? Problem areas? Strong points, weak points. Wants $4,000.00 I am not familiar with this model at all. Anyone with experience with this model would be a great help. Thanks (:

Dave 63, Thanks for the info. I guess with that few miles there would be little service. Would think that most folks do not go to the shop unless there is a problem. I will check the items you have mentioned.
