Was just given a 2012 sporty 72, wondering if anyone knows if an after market peanut tank will bolt up to it? Want to do a special tank paint job but don't want to paing over the factory tank. Does the low fuel indicator in the factory tank cause a problem with using a after market tank? My regular scoot is a 32 year old shovel so I'm not up to speed on these new bikes. Thanks CcRider

hey CC it's just the customary thing to do. Mainly because we get too many people just come in here and ask 1 question and then leave, it's irritating.

Far as the tank, you have to get a fuel injected tank otherwise you will have to convert the bike to carb if you want to use a non FI tank. As far as just bolting on, that depends. some will have pre cut bolt holes, if you get one that is not specifically made for that year, just make it fit with a new bracket. It is supposed to be custom right ? LOL

Aftermarket peanut tank will not fit as a direct bolt-up. The new tanks have a "tunnel" welded to the tank, which fits the backbone.

I have a 2005-2006 carb tank at home I can measure the distance between the mounting holes for you if you need it, or just measure yours.

The issue will be mounting the EFI pump/filter in the tank.

Thanks for the replies, yea I totally understand about the one question wonders surfing the forums! Good info told me what I needed to know, i'll be hanging around hopefully I can help some others, while I'm not too up on the new scoots I'm pretty fair on the old shovels.

Just remember you can also look on craigslist or ebay for a 48 tank as well, it's the same one used on the 72.
