gas mileage
Was hoping to get a little poll going and some advice on improving gas mileage. My first 150 miles got me 37.5 mpg on an XL1200R. I figured it'd be a little higher than that.

it all depends on how you ride. If you hit the throttle hard every stop light and stop sign, you will definitely decrease your fuel mileage just the same as in a car. I did a 800 mile trip couple months ago over 3 days, my average was 45 on an 02 1200 Custom and I weigh 250 pounds plus another 15 for bags. I was also riding at about 80 mph while on highways.

I have been averaging between 45 to 50 mpg on my 2000 XL 1200. That's a combination of city and highway driving.

On the highway around 80 mph I get about 40-45 mpg. I could probably get better if I was lighter on the throttle.

In town I get about 35 mpg, and on the highway I get around 46 mpg. The best I've done is 50 mpg on a 500 mile trip this summer.
And I ride it like I stole it!!

Maybe I should stay with my 833.
I never get less than 60mpg and at on a run I get 70mpg
Those extra ccs seem to make the sporty awful thirsty.

My 02 carb. WIDE GLIDE gets a consistent 50-52 MPG & can hit 200 miles before going on reserve which gives me another 1.2 gallons to look for a station . Bone stock except for jetted carb. - SE air cleaner with BIG K&N - stock headpipes with CYCLE SHACK two & a half slash-cut slip-ons , 93 octane EXXON & a splash of MMO !
The bike is plenty fast enough for this ole man plus its reliable as a rock !
I'm a happy camper !
PS :
Ya'll need to include whether or not your runnin a carb. or FI bike .
