883 to 1200 comparisons

Besides the obvious differences of the color of the jugs and the location of the horn, what are the visual differences in the 1200C and the 883C?

The 1200 has a fake console on the gas tank.

1200C has chrome engine & valve covers as well as the black cylinders and heads. The 883C has grey powder coated engine covers and polished valve covers. The bike is the same.

When I looked at them I saw a $2000 difference on the price tag. eek

I've never seen a "fake console" on the sportsters. Some year models had a gas tank trim that ran down the center of the tank but no console.

of course there would be a $2k difference, it's between an 883 and a 1200.

to OP, what year models are you asking about? There have been changes made in recent years compared to older years.

to answer the question Chris got it right, the 1200C has a black with highlighted fins and chrome covers, the 883C has grey engine with polished covers. Other than that, the bike is pretty much the same

I have an 07. My vanity is showing. I am looking at an 883 to1200 conversion and I was thinking of making it look Like a 1200 when I do it.

The tank trim, was/ is called in the parts book a "console", not sure why, or even why it's there.

that is weird.


if you had a base 883 there would be a bit more, such as forward controls for instance, but since you had the 883C the main difference is the black engine with highlighted fins and chrome covers

My wife has the '05 883C and one of my best buddies has the '07 1200C. I see them side by side a couple times a week.
