Santee Bolt on HT
I have been seriously considering a Santee bolt on hardtail for my ironhead (for this winters transformation) anyone here have any experience with them? Are they constructed well? good quality welds? and do they line up as they should? I am having problems finding pics of a bike with one installed.
Also, they will effectively lower the bike a couple inches and lengthen it 4 or so inches. So, I need an 8 or 9 inch longer chain, a longer brake rod, and a shorter kick stand. OK, where can I find a shorter kickstand?

I put one on a bike a few years ago. It's a nice piece. Honestly, and this is only my opinion, I prefer a weld on. I don't like the thought of having no suspension, and the rear of the bike being BOLTED on, and taking that kind of abuse.
You'll also need to make mounts for your rear fender, as the fender stuts will no longer be there, as the frame mounts in that spot. You may have to relace the fender, of at a minimum, find a way to hard mount it to the frame.
As for your kickstand, you can heat it and bend it, ot cut/weld it, or just go to JPCycle, and buy one the correct length, after you figure out what you need. Replacement is the best way, IMHO.

I would much rather the weld on myself, but...I have a 35 year old unmolested frame that is perfect, don't want to fuggg it up, and with a bolt on, I can always reverse the precedure. I knew I would have to do something different with the rear fender, but that isn't a big deal, I can fab something up, will probably only use a small, very small, flat trailer fender. small enough to get a skunk stripe
but I would replace all of the sheet metal anyway, got a paintjob in mind already and beings my sporty is currently sporting my first paint job, it will probably get set up on a shelf till needed again.

If I recall, Josh, it all comes with grade-8 bolt any way. I can appreciate you not wanting to mar a good frame.

thanks for the understanding, everyone else around here says, "fuggit, cut it, it aint nothing speacial anyway" well to me it is. which is why I will probably never get the springer front end I want, can't find an affordable one for a 7/8 neck and I don't want to do surgury on the neck casting, I know it would be easier to go with an aftermarket frame, but that wraps up a whole other bag of hornets with titleing, etc

As long as its 1978 or older the title stay with the motor and you can put it in any frame and not have to do Speacial construction and you can always weld on the bolt on hardtail if you change your mind.

I've actually heard of people stamping original frame numbers on aftermarket frames, but I won't attempt that one, I'd be the one that would get caught
