Chrome Fork Cap Probs.

During the re-build of my forks, the chrome caps will not snap onto the sliders. The sliders are chromed, and I have already had a problem with the axle. I had to grind some chrome outta the holes to get the axle to properly fit. I assume that is the problem with the caps also, but is there a tool or trick to getting these things on?, I have already trashed one trying to tap it on with a rubber mallet.

Thanks

Marshall

?"Proper"?

Posted 8/11/09

"It is past midnight and once again I have found a forum I can get addicted to, when I SHOULD be in bed! The last one was for my diesel truck and I lost alot of sleep over that site! I am quite new to Harleys, about three years now, I bought my uncles 1980 FLH with PILES of miles, and transformed it to what it is now, this winter I am going to need some help in going through the engine to try and fix a couple of the oil leaks, I just bought an 07' Wide Glide that has been lightly wrecked and am working on putting it back together, it has been alot of fun so far. Youall will most likley see me in the classifieds looking for WG parts, or asking alot of part fittment questions. TTyall L "

Dixicrat, what else do you want to know? What is "proper"? I would bore you with details of my life of calculus and statics homework, or that I repair other peoples junk part time that they refuse to take care of, BUT I figured you'(all) wouldn't give a shit.
