883L Suspension

I just bought an 883L Sporty... I am looking to do a fair amount of 2 Up riding with the Wife.

I have read several posts here about people wanting to get rid of the weak suspension (bottoming out etc...) that the Lows have. I am not so concerned with the Bike remaining at its lower height as I am being able to ride very comfortably with 2 on it.

I am not against raising the bike, what I am looking for is what the recommendations would be for helping out the stock suspension... I am thinking that I would go with the heavy duty progressives, just looking for length and model recommendations... maybe someone here has had a similar situation...

Also, what is the stock shock length on the 2006 883L.

Thanks...

I have an 06 883L think the shocks are 11 1/2 " at lowest setting you have 4 more notches to adjust the shock id try that before spending a cpl hundred bucks on shocks

Progressive Suspension shocks.

You can get the 11.5" shocks for the "low" HD's, however unlike your straight-rate springs, the Progressive springs are just that: Progressive, in that their weight holding capability increases as you compress them.

It might be a 120lbs/inch spring rate on a stock shock, and at 3", you'd be at 360 lbs for a full 3" travel compression distance.

On a Progressive shock, the first inch might be the same 120lbs/inch rate, but at 2", it's 140lbs/inch, and at 3" it's at 160lbs/inch. Total to compress that 3" is now 420 lbs.

Costs about $300 shipped for a pair from JPCycle.
