Question Grease

I took my Harley in last year for a "all in one" tune up special for $125 dollars. New oil filter, new oil, greased everything, changed spark plugs and wires, put on new throttle cable (warranty).

My question - ever since then - my front fork is overflowing with grease. Every time I ride it - I have to wipe off a lot of the stuff. What did they do? Is it just an over fill and it is over full - or is there a problem? Thanks guys.

By "front forks" you mean the head bearings (That part that twists in the neck of the frame) then yes, it's over filled....

It won't hurt anything, and will eventually stop puking out, just in time to be reserviced and start puking again.

The deal is this: Back in the day, HD had mechanics take the neck bearing OUT, inspect them and regrease them.

Today, they seem to think it's a better idea to just place a grease fitting in the neck, and pump it full of grease until it comes out of the top and bottom.

Yes....it's easier to lube your neck bearings, but they'll never get "inspected" until there's a failure and then there's that grease mess............

Thank You Dave - It is getting old. Once the bike warms up enough - it starts dripping all over. But yes - it is the head bearings. Perhaps it won't need grease for a while. LOL

Isn't there supposed to be a different king of grease they use that doesn't flow out like the white lithum (sp?) does?
