Questions about super glide suspension

Hi fello riders, I was wondering about lowering the rear of my 2008 super glide custom. My weight is 220lbs and my wife is 130lbs. She doesn't ride with me too often,so keep that into consideration.What would you recommend for shocks? Would I need to lower the front?Would I need a shorter kick stand? In 1991 I lowered my then 1200 sportster with H.D."hugger" rear shocks and Progressive fork springs. It needed a shorter kick stand( from an 883 hugger sportster) But, on my super glide, when lowered,will the rear tire clear bolts,wiring,etc. under the rear fender? Any info. you can give will be appreciated....Thanks!

I have a 13 SG custom, and I'm fairly certain they are pretty close to the same. I way about the same as yourself.

When I picked my bike up a few weeks ago the dealer told me I didn't have to mess with the rear shocks as they were set for me. The tire was already pretty close to the fender so I don't know how lowering it anymore would be a good idea.

I took my wife for a ride on a spur of the moment, and we bottomed out whenever we hit a bump in the road. Upon review when I got home the dealer had the rear shock setting at 1. Seriously 1!? After looking at the manual it should be at least a 3 for just me. I was able to crank it to 4 by hand. Now there is some clearence between the tire and the fender. I actually like it this way even for just myself as it gave me another inch or so of seat height (I'm 6'2").

There isn't much travel on a SG, and I can't imagine lowering it would make it any better. I could be wrong thought.

Thanks Hunt/Fish365, I too like the bike the way it looks stock,but I seen one 3days ago that rode by my wife n I that had shorter,black colored shocks on it. The bike seemed to sit low and looked cool as hell. I was just wondering if that could be done to my bike without any clearence problems. Thanks very much for the reply

If you lower it you will have to have shocks that restrict it to the point it won't bottom out on the fender. You can have almost zero clearance if you want it but you are going to like the ride. It would be like welding up the rear end.

thanks for the input everyone. I now think I'll leave it stock. Lowered looks "cool", but I don't want the trouble of it rubbing the fender or loosing the nice ride comfort.

My stock 12 FXDC bottoms out sometimes two up.

Lower looks cool, but I may go for a longer shock for more lean angle and better ride.

My dealer said "everyone wants it lower!". Wonder how bad it would look?
