2008 XL 883 Progressive 412 Shocks

I am ready to replace the rear shocks on my 2008 XL883 with Progressive 412's. I have been told that the stock shocks measure 13.25" center to center. The shocks offered by Progressive come in 13" and 13.5."

Does it matter which shock I use? Progressive suggests the 13" shock absorber.

Use the 13" one.

Is that because the 13.5" shock will cause the tire to rub on the fender when the shock absorber is totally compressed?

Thanks - Pete
