Crescent wrench on both ends. And there's a good reason.
After the first time you take it off, if you swap ends
and insert the axle shaft from the left side this time
and attach the nut on the right, then from now on
you can take out the axle next time w/o removing the exhaust.
I use a 4 foot pipe on each side and a digital scale
at the measured 4 foot from the axle center, that way
I can get the torque exactly right, even when I can't put a socket
or torque wrench on the nut.
