grass hoppers every where!

Went for a nice back roads( county roads) ride today me and the ol lady temps in the mid 80's. What I didn't expect was all the grass hoppers(everything in Texas is bigger even the bugs) every where we slaughtered quite a few. I slowed down to about 50 mph as they were big, felt like rocks hitting us, funny how they will bounce off my legs or part of the bike and flip up past your face. Not another person on the road either so speed didn't matter so we took our time and enjoyed the back roads and the sights. Anyway once we got on main highways no more bugs or very few back up to 70 mph. Got home and the bike was now swarmed by flies so I cleaned off the remains had hopper eggs and guts smeared all over the bike seems that it must be that time of the year when they get big and thick.Heck I think its going to be warm tomorrow again so I'll go out and knock them around again, might wear the chaps this time but who knows. Glad I have a windshield/bat wing on the bike.

Way to go Norman. Show those bugs who's boss. It's amazing how hard these bugs are when you get hit by them or the sound they make when hitting the hard surfaces.

Years ago there was a late summer grasshopper appearance of Biblical proportions, tens of thousands covering everything, one morning I got up and there had been an overnight cold snap, maybe saw a low in the 50's, every blade of grass in my yard had a grasshopper the size of a big frozen french fry on it, trying to get warmed up, they couldn't move in the chill.

I went into triple-time mode and ran thru mowing the grass real quick, none of them jumped, the mower even made a different noise, kind of clicky-slushy

Yuk! seems like they are all down your way. Up here on Missouri back roads riding Friday-night there were tons of flying insects splattered on my shield too. They weren't grass-hoppers just flying yuk bombs. Think the bugs like to get out and cruise in nice weather too. Maybe I will go for a ride this morning while it's still cool. Cya!!!
