Screamin Eagle Slip-on baffles????
ok, now that i finally got through the registration(tried to post avatar but keeps sayin "action failed") i have a few questions. I ride an "09" Road King and since i bought it have installed the screamin Eagle slip-ons. Nice sound but can't quite hear it when ride with the group, so i removed the baffles, and now its just a bit too loud!!! One, will it hurt the motor runnin without the baffles???(i don't really like how loud it is!) Two, does anyone sell replacment baffles that are a tad louder than original?? and three is there a way to modify the original baffles to allow more sound? Thanks, Turner

Should have at least some back pressure on the engine. Your motor should be tuned for the setup you currently have, taking the baffles out will most likely change it.
As far as the baffles go, most will punch some holes in the baffle to get the desired sound they want.

Hey Turner Welcome to the forum. the ECM on the 09's can adjust to pipes easier than previous years, but to do it right, you really want to make your bike breathe better all around. They come lean from the factory to meet EPA standards. The best thing to do is a stage 1 air cleaner and a remap from the dealer or better a TFI or PC V, the A/C wil change the sound on the back end too. You really want equal amounts flowing in and out for best performance. The louder the pipe the less back pressure you have and loss of low end torque, they'll also run leaner and hotter too (not a good thing). Some HD dealers here sell Rush slip ons and you can get 1 3/4 to 2 1/2" baffles, the smaller the baffle, more torque, less sound. I have the 2" I like the sound and performance and can still listen to the radio. Good Luck Tom

Thanks tibadoe and tom both!!! I was worried about the back pressure quite a bit since the bike is pretty much new. I rode the bike to work 2 days and found that the bike was a bit too loud. I was in the middle of moving during this so i just drilled a few more holes in each baffle and re-installed them. After a 200 mile ride this weekend i'm still not quite happy with the sound. I do plan on doing the air cleaner and download from Harley in the future. Now with the Rush slip-ons, do i have to have the bike remapped or can i just slip-em on? This is my first Harley so sorry for the dumb questions!!! And i appreciate the help ahead of time. Jas.

If you lose the back pressure, you will lose low end torque too. I have ridden around some very loud bikes, it never caused me any problem because I could not hear my own machine. I have the Screaming Eagle 50-state legal slip-on's and I like them a lot. They have a nice sound to them without blowing out anyone's eardrums.
If you do a lot of riding, a loud exhaust can start to get old real quick. That is why a many riders who pack on the miles have stock exhausts or something in the Screaming Eagle noise range.

Your bike has what's called a "Closed Loop Fuel Injection"; prior years have an Open Loop. What that means is your computer "reads" the oxygen levels coming from both cylinders and makes on the fly adjustments to your fuel trims. It has long term fuel trims and short term fuel trims, kind of like a coarse and fine setting. When the engine leans out, meaning the computer will read very low oxygen levels in the exhaust, it will add fuel. When the engine is too rich, it will decrease the amount of fuel. These are your air/fuel ratio's. The computer is set to read the afr's within a certain parameter. When it falls outside this parameter (the long-term fuel trim) it will adjust for it. When it falls within the parameter it also adjust but not as drastically. The computer usually takes a little bit of time to adjust the long fuel trims so you should take it easy for the first 50 miles or so when making big changes.
BUT, like has been said, for optimum performance you can't beat a custom tune and definitely put more air in when dumping more out.
And try these guys: Big City Thunder - Product &*Fit
They'll sell you just the baffles for a little more than half of buying new slip-ons. I've never used them so maybe someone that has can chime in on quality, etc. It's just another option I was aware of and wanted to share.

Thanks Octo13er, is there any other brand replacement baffles and sound clips for them or am i limited as to what i can do? I'd rather stick with my SE's and just replace the baffles. It's gonna be cheaper and easier considering i've had the stock ones out and back in already!!!

baffled
I am currently going through the same situation. I Bought S.E. slip-ons for 09 Road King and need to wake up the sound somewhat. I hear that Thunder Monsters are quite loud, I don't want um to be too loud. There is another after market baffle that says they fit the 09's. Cycle Shack makes a baffle that fits (supposedly). I have the 4" street performance S.E,'s with interchangeable tips (H.D. part # 80732-09). I would need to drill out the rivets to get the factory baffles out. I don't know how they sound just yet, as I am still looking into them.
If anyone out there knows about these and how they sound/perform, please let me know.
