To cold to ride?

Just wondering how cold it has to be before people stop riding. I try to ride if the streets are clear and the high for the day is going to be above freezing. I rode in to work this morning at about 38 degrees. I live in Iowa BTW

I don't care so much about the temperature as the state of the roads...when things are salted in for the winter thats it...

I did hit 10 feet of black ice once at a red light though...that was fun! Glad the bike was striaght up!

As it gets colder my rides shorten, take more brakes also stop when the salt hits pavement.

I've rode before when I had to wear long johns, and a plastic garbage bag with holes for my head and arms under my jacket and still had to pull over a couple of times because I was going into hyperthermia!!

Is that when you go from cold to numb, to feeling warm again? The feeling warm again part is nice...but I've been told it's bad?
