95" Big Bore Kit

I am considering installing a 95" Big Bore kit on my 2006 88" Street Glide. Want to do the Stage II kit to include cams.

Now my question is, should a novice do this job or leave it to the experts?

Reason I ask is I am a novice but would love to do this project over the winter but would hate to do something to hurt the motor.

Thanks....

Define "novice"?

I've replaced cams, did top end work and rebuilt entire bikes, but never split a case or indexed flywheels, or replaced a crank pin, however, I've had every other part of one of these apart at one time or another.

I'm not a novice, and I'm not an expert either, but I know my limitations, and believing you can do something, and being wrong, can be costly.

If you've done engine work before on HD's in the past(It doesn't coun't if you did a head gasket job on the wife's 1988 Ford Escort 15 years ago.) then read up on it, buy a Moco manual and do it.

If you've NEVER taken the top end of an HD engine apart, then I'm not gonna suggest you do it, as chances are you don't have the correct tools to begin with, and one small error can cause serious issues in a few seconds.

If replacing a kitchen garbage disposal is a 6 hour job for you, then pay someone to do it.

Just sayin'

You know YOU better then we do. There's tricks and traps to every mechanical job. Knowing what to do, or better yet, what NOT TO DO, is half the battle.

Like Dave said: It can be done at home with the correct tools and know how.
If you have to ask us, well, maybe let someone else do it.

You guys are quick and smart... I kind of felt the way you suggest so I will leave it up to the experts...

Sometimes my curiosity gets the best of me....
