07 ultra primary seal leaking

Has any one had an issue with rear seal on their primary leaking? i had the dealer replace once already at 12, 000 miles under warranty and now at 21,000 it is leaking again. Called dealership to see what they can do to help with this but surprise they havent gotten back to me.

Do you mean the inner primary seal in the inner case, where the trans output shaft comes through?

The reason I ask, is because there are NUMEROUS items that can leak in that area, and appear to be an inner primary seal.

Dave when i got up under there with my flash light i could tell exactly when it was coming from. they tried to tell me the first time that my belt was too tight but the dealer was the last to adjust the belt. well the belt is acually a little loose and has been since after they changed the seal so i can't believe that was the issue.

If the belt were too tight, then not onle would the inner primary seal be tweaked, but so would be the trans output shaft seal....and I'm betting that's fine.

The inner primary seal can leak for numerous reasons, after another 10K.
1.) Cheap seal.
2.) trans 5th gear output bearing issue.
3.) primary chain issue. (you have an auto adjuster.)
4.) Fluid issue.
5.) Gremlin. (I gotta throw that in there.)

There are so many things that are intertwined in that area, that it takes a skilled wrench to take it apart, and look around, and not just replace parts, rather figure out what caused the failure to begin with. A "parts-changer" will just replace the seal and fluid.

A "mechainc" will look for other things.....

Anyone can replace a seal. Finding WHY the seal took a shit in 10K is another issue.

My suggestion is to either:
a.) give them another shot.
b.) take it to another dealer.
c.) Find an indy shop that will fix it.

Warranty is another issue. However....I would only take so much of that shit from an HD dealer.

I recommend indy shops a lot, because most of them are guys that worked in the HD industry, got tired of the shit, or the "just get it out the door" attitude, and decided to bail and go it on their own.

Most guys who buy $20K bikes, aren't that thrilled to take their bike to a place that looks like a wodden shed, with a lift and a fair selection of Custom Chrome oil filters.

I gotta tall ya.............some of the best wrenches in the world work out of small, dark holes, in comparison to the nice, bright blingy dealer settings and employees......

Just sayin.....

Thanks Dave, i will wait and see if they get back to me by next week or i will call again and ask to speak to the service manager which is who the guy on the phone said he was going to talk to. i have had some pretty good communication with the manager before and he seemed to genuinaly want to help me before but we wil see. As far as the independent i agree with you, those are the guy's i went to to do my dyno work instead of the dealer and they did it for a whole lot less !! The only reason i am going back to the dealer is that the bike was under warranty when they replaced the last seal and it lasted what 10 k,i think they should find out why on their nickel not mine !! but we will see.
