Any help appreciated, I was on a touring holiday in France with the missus, when on our last day I had the bike loaded, and ready for the off to catch the ferry at Cherbourg 200 miles away. Well to cut a long story short I started the bike and luckily I was watching the dash lights when the oil light suddenly came on, I shut the motor down and then restarted it in the vain hope it was the sender playing up but it still stayed on I undid the point where a pressure gauge would fit and turned it over with the plugs out but "No Oil", so I had to leave the bike to get the ferry back to England as I had to get back to work, I went back last week with a trailer and bought the bike back home, I have stripped out the cam cover side and a more sorry site you have never seen both the oil pump bevel and drive gear had teeth missing, and it took me two days to finally get the gears and shaft apart and out, It was at this point I found out the oil pump drive shaft is longer than the gap between the gearbox and the engine, so now it looks like the engine needs to come out, ( The cause of all this seems to be the Plastic breather drive gear I found a tooth from this jammed in between the gears on the inner two gears of the oil pump, causing it to jam and shear the other drive gears and keyways.) I have a question I was looking at Jim's catalog and I see he does a Metal breather, would this be preferable to the original H.D. plastic one that has caused me so much grief, and has anyone had teeth drop off the plastic breather ?? ( I cant see for the life of me why these three teeth should have come off as the valve was free in the casing and rotating freely.
