4-point Docking Kit

Looking to add a detachable backrest and luggage rack to my 2017 RK.

Is the official HD docking kit the way to go, or are there other alternatives?

It looks like there are after-market racks that can utilize the HD docking kit, but I didn't see any after-market docking kits.

EDIT: I did a quick search on eBay and found both HD OEM and After-market kits. Much below what the dealer is asking. Any experience with the after market ones?

Thanks.

I do not but I tend to go aftermarket when I can. What brand are you looking at?

I have the OEM kit. Have no experience with after market, but it is a very simple set of hardware.

I have the OEM docking hardware on my Ultra. Easy to install and no problems! Looks good when the tour pak is removed!! Lowers the center of gravity too.

I've used aftermarket (knock-off) hardware from eBay. They do a decent job of duplicating fit and function. I do think Harley's chrome can't be beat, though. You just need to research it a little to make sure you're buying fit duplicates.

Same here, bought darn near identical docking hardware to Harley's and a luggage rack identical to Harley Airwing rack plus brake light and saved over 600 bucks. Yes, I know, I am a terrible person for doing that, save your breath, but I am on Social Security, it is still a free country(?) and I need to get the best bang for the buck I can get.

Escondido? Spent many great years there and a few cousins still call it home. Best year of my life was spent working on a 13 lot subdivision across from Orange Glen High School.

You certainly are not a terrible person for buying aftermarket. Harley chit is way too expensive.

Interesting.....if California keeps sliding into the abyss, sh*t, it is already there,.....the wife and I dream about moving to Texas. You, obviously, are way ahead of us in that regard, living in a place where common sense prevails.....pray for us.....Jerry 'Moon Beam' Brown is now working hard to make California a sanctuary state plus preserving all the other outrageous nonsense that this state has going for it.

Either Harley or aftermarket is fine just research whatever way you go cheapest does not always mean crap.
If you go Harley everything will fit right the first time, if you go aftermarket some makes fit good and some you might have to tweak a little. Get what you can afford. You have the final say on how you spend your cash.
