Buying a 1999 Roadglide tips

I am about to part exchange my 1200 Sportster for a 1999 Roadglide 1450. Any tips or things to watch out for would be much appricated.

If you've been following this forum you should already be aware of the '99 touring model cam bearing failures . Not to mention the tensioner wear problems . Try to get the service records for the bike to see if those issues have been resolved yet .

Yes I am aware of the above failings, what the posts I have read about these problems seem to concentrate on the tensioners rather than the bearings, and none are clear as to whether once fixed, how long the problem is good for, 20k...30k?
Are there any other known problems with the early twin cam motors, some people say they wouldn't touch an early tc unless it wad real cheap, does this opinon have any validity?

1999 TC bearing failures , that's when the tensioner wear problem came to light . All '99 TCs had ball bearings for both cams in the support plate , the rear cam bearing failed . The fix for that was a roller bearing for the rear cam .
I've inspected tensioner shoes in later TCs with over 20k that showed minimal wear . The shoe material has been upgraded from the original stuff and seems to wear much better .
I wouldn't hesitate purchasing an early TC depending upon condition and price . Gotta see how it runs and rides , does it start cold with proper idles . The Magnetti Marelli EFI is a good system if set up properly .

if the price is right and it runs any potential issues should be an easy fix.

Thanks for the info and reassurance. I will take a good look at the service history and walk away if it smells bad........there's always another one around the corner, but once the moneys spent.......

I've had my 1999 Road Glide (22000 miles)since December 2000, had no problems, and done the hydraulic tensioner up grade last year.
A mate of mine has a 1999 Glide coming into his shop for the tensioner up grade, it's done 90000 and never been opened up, can't wait to have a look in there and check those tensioners.
