I've got 2 oil coolers on the Very Dirty Girl... she now holds an extra pint of oil - I'm sure that having more oil to circulate thru the motor helps somewhat.

I had the oil cooler on my 07 RKC. I never had any heat or running hot issues but I was also using synthetic oils, V&H true duals, DynoJet fuel pack, air kit, etc. By itseft, I am sure it helps some, but in combination with other things they all add up to help an air cooled engine. Just my 2 cents of what works for me.

I believe oil coolers in general are a good idea. Don't have any specific info on the HD premium cooler I put on my 09 Ultra a few months back, but I put one on my 04 Deuce and as I remember it would keep the oil temps about 15-20 degrees cooler, as indicated by the digital oil temp guage I had on the oil dipstick, than before it was installed.

I installed a premium oil cooler kit from HD. You can read about my experience in the engine section oil filter choices. Every thing fit well except when it was installed I could not install the proper HD filter without having to remove my crank positioning sensor. Thats why I posted oil filter choices. I was trying to find a filter that was slightly shorter so I could install the filter without having to remove my sensor. If you read the last post on the above oil filter choices I did find a filter made by purolator that was specific for my bike and did fit. Also for about another 150.00 you can purchase a offset filter adapter from Jagg which will allow you to install a HD filter. As you will see some participants of this forum will list all kinds of filter options, but beware all filters are not the same. Car filters are for cars. The filter I found to work was the Purolator Precision motorcycle oil filter ML16822. Like I stated earlier this filter was specifically designed for the HD twin cam. The bike I installed the oil cooler kit on is a 2003 roadglide. Also The amount of oil it takes to fill this cooler is so small you will not have to add any additional oil to your bag. After installing the kit and adding the 4 quarts of oil to the bag I ran the bike, checked for leaks, rode for about 50 mi. and checked the bike with the bike level on a stand after it had completely cooled down and there was no noticable difference. So what im saying you will not be holding a additional quart of oil in your system as previously suggested. Good luck and I hope you dont run into the same hassles I did but if you do you will know how to deal with it.

I've run bikes both with and without a cooler and my experiance is that the oil coolers definately work. I had one on my Dyna Glide and I have one on my Roadking. They both definately keep the temp down.
