Premium Oil Cooler Kit for Touring Models

Been reading alot of hype over oils used in HD's and Thermal breakdown etc. Was curious if anybody has installed this Premium Oil Cooler Kit by HD for their Touring bike ? And if so what the the end result ? Was it worth the money ? Did it actually cool the engine that much ? Am considering putting this unit on my 09 Ultra. Thanx.....

I haven't installed a cooler, but I am interested in the answers to your questions as well. Hopefully someone will share some info with us.

Part of the reason that I think a cooler would be a great idea,
would be having maybe an extra quart of oil volume.

The smartest thing you can do on a Twinkie is add an oil cooler.

did one on an 05 Twinky softail,,,,since changed it to an aftermarket downtube model to clean up airflow to the front cylinder....can't see blocking air on an aircooled engine....

I think the oil cooler only works when your moving and not when your stuck in traffic so other then having a extra qrt of oil it"s a waste of money.

You're discounting heat transfer by radiation.
The higher the oil temp, the more radiation would contribute.

I'd agree a small fan concealed behind it would be an improvement, but anything
with as much surface area as an oil cooler is going to radiate some amount of heat even w/o any airflow.

Not saying it'll keep the oil cool, just saying it's probably better than nothing.

Blackdog, what downtube model did you get? Still got the one you took off?

Wonder if there's room underneath out of sight for something like this?

You do realize that oil heat is dissipated from a cooler, even when it's just sitting, as the oil temps are higher then the ambient temps outside??

Outside: 90*.....oil temp: 210*.......

Do you think your car doesn't cool if it's sitting still? It still cools, even without moving air, or the electric fan running, by fluid circulation and heat shedding alone. Does it cool as well? No...but it still sheds heat.

An oil cooler does the same thing..........synthetic oil makes it work even better....increased oil capacity adds to the efficiency.

Then, once airflow begins again, it cools faster then without [cooler] it.

Yeah......it's a waste of money.......

Hey Dave, guess the price difference in these oil coolers? (Dave bought one too..)

Think the second one is $420 more effective?
