Different mounting for Cortech Sport Saddle Bags

Mounted my new Cortech Sport Bags today, a little differently than I had seen it discussed on the V-Rod forum.

I seem to wind up doing things differently even when I don't plan on it.

Everybody seems to assume the bags have to mount over the seat, and that made a few people disappointed that it seemed inevitable to interfere with a passenger's seating. Some of those might find this mounting gives them some ideas. Especially if they're using the Sundowner seat.

I use the Sundowner rider seat, but, for my purposes, since my passenger seat will never be used, I decided that I but don't like the passenger seat's bulk. So I kept the smaller stock passenger seat. IMHO, the mismatch in fit is not as much an eyesore as the bulky Sundowner rear seat would be. Besides if I cared all that much, the hang-on strap pretty effectively obscures the mismatch.

Anyway, seems like a passenger could live with these bags in place, especially a passenger riding on the bigger Sundowner passenger seat section.

The stock passenger section on my bike is sitting in there loose, the crunch fit between the hook on the fender at the rear and the Sundowner rider seat in front makes it secure when the seat is latched, being loose would allow quick disconnect of the bags to carry in at an overnight stop.

Anybody want to buy a Sundowner passenger seat section, maybe with a stock V-Rod front section?

I like my Cortech bags enough that I am going to fab up some simple mounts for them out of some round stock or tubing. I could then cut off the cross straps completely. Both my front and rear cross straps fit under my seat presently but due to the added height and so forth sometimes the seat shifts slightly in a steep turn and it feels like the rear tire is sliding out. Needless to say that is an unsettling feeling.

The one disappointment I have is that after a single summers use, and my bike spends most of its life on it's throne in the garage, the tops of the bags have faded appreciably. I am trying to figure out how to re-dye them without screwing up the rear reflective strip.

Good job Nathan!

I started to have to PM you Mike, I farted around for an hour trying to mount those bags, I knew something wasn't right, found the instructions, even went to their website, no joy, I could not see how everybody was so enthused about bags that you apparently had to tie in place. And why on earth they had such nice buckle on connections, if they were only there for connecting the saddle bags to the optional tail bag.

That's before I FINALLY found the hidden packet of 4 attachment loop/straps with the 4 female connectors. Seemed like a pretty crude system without them. DOH!

Make it three boneheads. I use mine as true throw overs with no tie downs at all. Just gotta balance the weight and keep perishable items and cold drinks on the left side.
