New NRS buyers help me out
Ok, I'm still in Iraq but am heading home in a couple of weeks. The local dealer, MileHigh Harley in Denver has promised to have the below bike waiting for me on the floor when I get there. Using advise from this forum I asked for a lot more but all they sent me was the base price of the bike and the below prices. I've already gone back to them and told them I want to cut all the crap and not haggle so to give me the bottom line so we'll see what they say.
My Business Degree tells me that with HD saying they have an excess of 2008 and 2009 bikes on the showroom floors AND they are cutting production significantly to get rid of them that I should be able to find a good deal, at least with some extras. What does anyone think of this deal.
From the dealer;
VRSCDXA .....$18,169 + $299 setup + $199 D&H
I asked for a Security System but he didn't give a price and didn't say if it was included in the bike.
500 & 1000 mile services......$250 - $350 ea.
mini sissy bar and pad/black WITH LUGGAGE RACK...$180 + $60 + $70 + $111
helmet ....$180 - $500
service & parts manual...$61 + $50
extended warranty...$800 - $1900
Some gear
boots...$100 - $250
gloves...$30 - $100
grips and or pegs....$70 - $260, $65
It doesn't look to me like the dealer has offered anything at this point. I hear stories of others getting some or most of the extras included so should I look around?
thoughts?

don't hold your breathe on promises made by a HD dealer first of all. yes, i would shop around you can find the same bike here in NC for about 18k with most that stuff included.
anyway just do some research and you'll see you can get an 08 or even an 07 for A WHOLE LOT LESS than an 09. if you absolutley have to have a new bike, which is quiet allright i love NEW bikes, i would wait til august or september and get a 2010 or atleast to wait and see if they're coming out with anything new that really trips yer
trigger.
i ride a 2006 nightrod bought it new in 07 for $3000 less than sticker because they needed to make room for the new ones coming in, thats just my 2 cents good luck,
AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE OVER THERE IN IRAQ

Here's what you do. Email multiple dealers in the same email. Tell them what you are willing to pay. They'll know they are competing because they've all been CC'd on the email. I offer MSRP and I say, I will pay MSRP, not dealer fees, no set up, and that MSRP is WITH tax. So out the door, MSRP. One of them will take it. And the last time around I got a SERT thrown in and paid MSRP for the bike only, including tax.
Cheers,
Nick

I've emailed another dealer separately but informed them of the offer from the first dealer. I'm trying to keep it close to home but I will reach out. tks

I am of the opinion that you dont need the extended warranty or the dealer services if you buy the service and parts manual. That will save you quite a bit right there.
All thats needed is a few hand tools and basic mechanical skills. As far as the rest of those items including the manuals you can get them for a 20% discount at several online Harley dealers.
Great choice of bikes. I love mine!
Good luck and stay safe.
I think it would also make it easier to compare bike prices between dealers.

i would agree, it sounds like the stealer is not hanging any carrots out there for ya, probably figures your desperate to get a scoot.
shop it out and play the game a little more. you'll find that steal of a deal.
oh and by the way, thankyou for your service, it's good to have you coming home!

Buying a new bike gets you a free year in HOG, which will give you discounts at some dealers...find out which and how much of a discount, as well as discounts on your bike insurance. Try to get the accessories with that discount. (15% at the locals here)
I would definitely shop around for riding gear, or at least wait until you qualify for a discount.
Service manual for sure, even full price pays for itself quickly.
Make them adjust your back shocks for you before you buy, the tool is about 10 bucks and it will probably get very limited use.
I also love new bikes, but if the '07 had come with a 1250 I woulda bought one. Just to avoid the shipping and assembly fee BS.
I don't see any difference between an '08 DX and an '09 DX though.
Try to get a free dyno pull, without the extended service package..not necessity, but it would be nice to have.
The stock pipes are stealth quiet, I couldn't even hear myself next to a car on the highway. If you're going to be changing out pipes, see if you can get the stage 1 or the race tuner out of the door for cheap. If you come back for it, it can run a few hundred bucks. The stock program is extremely lean, and will blue (or white) your pipes fast.

I bought a new ultra last night. I did my homework and got the dealer costs for $20 on the web. I went in, showed them the cost and said I would pay $1000 over that cost plus tax and tags out the door. No inflated dealer prep fees, no other garbage, and I closed the deal in 15 minutes. They do want to sell!

well, everyone is telling me they will give me a good deal when I show up. I want the deal now and then I'll show up and sign some papers. They did tell me that NRS are pretty easy to find right now. I find that strange. The Military Sales rep is offering me a 2010 VRSCDXA for 16000 out the door, that include dealer prep and taxes. I just have to wait 4 months for it and I won't be home when it comes in. Crap!
