Never had to use the manual to change plugs before...

Got new plugs for both bikes, had over 20,000 on the LowRider and a little less on the B-Rod.

Took the plugs out to the garage, got the wrench, changed the pair on the LowRider,

turned to the B, knelt down to where I thought they were, hmmph. No plugs.

Laughed at myself, silly me, they're on the other side? Went around, and still, no plugs.

So I felt around places I can't see, on top of the cylinders, still didn't find anything easily identifiable as plugs.

So I have to get out my manual, just to figure out where the plugs are?

Pretty different and a little embarrassing.

Also found something wet/slimy that makes it look like I have an anti-freeze coolant leak.

More interesting and different. Checking hose clamps and hoses on a motorcycle.

Almost all twin cam engines have the plugs between the cams, on top of the cylinder. I'm assuming you had to pull the tank and airbox to get to them??

How hard was it to do?

What plugs did you replace them with? HD? Off-brand??

Haven't completed the job yet, I had to come chat about it.

It's also 100+ out and no breeze in the garage.

I'm using the NGK super pointy Iridium IX (or 1X)

I started a plug thread on them, I assume if the tips were a problem,
with staying red hot, there would be lots of discussion about it?

Hopefully Motive or Robbie can chime in about them. I know some plugs don't work well in some vehicles, IE: My 4.7 Dodge truck will run crappy with Platnum plugs in it, forcing my to use standard resistor plugs, and change them (2 hour job) every 30K.

Have you snuck around the V-rod forum about it??

I'd hate to see you go through all that work and then they're not an improvement.....

I'm not really expecting any improvement, I just felt that at 20,000 miles I needed to change plugs

I just don't want to find I got knock or ping if I run hard and high RPM cause the plug tips stay hot.

Understood. However, I think what I meant to say was I hate to see you drop the new ones in, and have the bike run less then it did, with the OEM plugs.

Sometimes, the newest thing on the market is nothing more then something to separate you from your money.

How did the OEMs look when you took them out?

20K is a lot of miles for plugs in a bike. Were they worn bad?

Can ya post a pic?

I'm pondering how the "ion knock detect" system will react to the pointy center electrode.

Until I'm comfortable with my understanding of it, ( or delusion of understanding ) I'm holding off on changing the V-Rod plugs.

Electrons leave a pointy emitter much easier than a rounded one,
but I believe that is only pertinent to the negative side and not the positive side.

Here are the 20K+ LowRider plugs.

Man.....that's hardly any wear for 20K..... If it weren't such a biotch to get to them, you could regap them and shove those bad boys back in...!!
