Good base and parts for custom 57' inspired Harley
I am thinking of using this (https://www.bikeexif.com/1957-harley-sportster-replica) '57 inspired modern Harley as my own inspiration for my next bike. I am looking for a good base meaning: mostly bolt-on parts, self painted, self drilled, almost no fabrication, type of base. I see that the builder used an XL1200 as their base...
Parts that set this bike apart:
- "elephant" vintage XL fenders
- round air cleaner cover ( I think this can be sourced straight from HD)
- turtle fuel tank
I am thinking of sourcing a recent superlow 883 due to its finish..
Which do you think would be a good base and where would one usually source these parts?
Thanks for the help! I'm coming from the metric bike world but am starting to get tired of the cafe racer vibe and I want to rep some 40's-50's vintage American rides.
Buy your 883 and ride it. There used to be and old saying that if you rode your bike, you wouldn't build a chopper. Lots of truth in that.
He does not want vintage.
He wants retro.
But agree. Buy it and ride it.
Whole lot of fabrication gone on in his example.
But with the square jugs still so obvious.

Not to discourage you[emoji12].
But it’s not going to be easy.
Plus going to take a lot time just making everything fit just right .
I think I understand what you’re trying to do. Good luck and take pics to share your project [emoji481]
