96 Road King crank no start

I have a 1996 HD Road King with fuel injection. Some times it will crank but no start. Other times it starts just fine. During the times it does not start you CAN hear the fuel pump kick on. There is a stored trouble code but when I try cycling the key 3 time the check engine light flashes to fast to count in order to see which code is being tripped. Any suggestions? Leaning towards the Crank Positioning sensor or Temp Sensor.

That's not the way to retrieve codes. Try this; Hold the speedo trip button in while turning the ignition on, wait for diagnostics to appear in the odo window, then use the trip button to cycle thru the diagnostics. Note: the procedure and code descriptions are in a sticky in the electrical section.

The electronic speedo will run codes. OP should try that and if it doesn't work then he needs to follow the procedure in the electrical sticky, NOT quick cycling the ignition switch, that's a no-no on the older M&M EFI bikes.

Check your voltage. Them old evo's will spin but won't start if voltage is low.

Reminds me.. check your battery, make sure its good. My 98 Sporty would spin all day long but not fire, if the battery was going bad. Lead to a lot of "wait for him to start his bike first" comments when on a trip...
