I'm looking for a smoother ride

Hello,

This is my first post. I am a fairly new rider. I went on a 615 mile trip this weekend. I ride a 2014 883Iron. I LOVE this bike. However, I had a little trouble keeping up around faster corners and my bike shakes a lot. My fellow riders have Softails. They say I should upgrade to a Softail. It would be a smoother ride and corners would be easier. My bike has only 1700 miles on it. I dont want a new bike. I would rather put money into this bike and make the ride smoother. They said corners are harder to go fast because it is so low to the ground. What is your advice?

Thanks,

1st of all, Sportsters aren't long haul cruisers unless you have a hard ass ! A Dyna or Softail would be a more comfortable ride for the long haul IMO.

Softail Heritage Classic would make a nice upgrade! Followed by an Ultra Limited, Street Glide, or Road Glide!!!

If you're wanting to keep your current bike, you could look into getting some progressive springs.

I replaced the front springs on my 883 Low, and it made a world of difference in ride quality.

I don't think there is a way to get a Sporty to ride well for the long haul, but the springs will help.

good luck

Lean into the turn......the more you lean , the less the bike will have to lean.

Sportys can be made to go long distances, but they're cruisers, not touring bikes. Heck, depending on which Softail you go with, you might find it lacking for long distance riding as well.

Sportys aren't more low to the ground than most Softails. As a matter of fact, they typically have a higher center of gravity as well. If I were you, this is what I'd consider:

Better shocks - stock shocks are meant for around town boppin', not the long haul
Better seat - Saddlemen Step-Up seems to be very popular plus offers pillion/bag holder area
Sissy bar - to attach the bag you'll need for longer trips
Detachable wind screen or fairing - Memphis Del Rey or Gauntlet are the ones I like

I'm a new rider with issues of my own, so take my advice with a grain of salt. Just thought I'd throw it out there to a fellow Sporty owner. Ride safe.

That's legit the most comfortable bike I've ever sat on. Not super crazy about the styling, but I could learn to love it. When someone says "rolling sofa," that's the bike that comes to mind. And I smile.

My Brother has a Sporty that he's made a few upgrades to suspension? shocks and some kind of springs in forks and header/pipe and that damn thing is more maneuverable than my Softail by a long shot?

Like DRVMN posted..natural progression of things
