Iron Butt Rally 2019 (43rd - hi-mileage Sporty)
The 2019 Iron Butt Rally finished yesterday (June 28). For the first time, it was won by a woman, Wendy Crockett, who rode a hair under 13,000 miles in the 11-day event and finished well ahead of second place.
From a Harley perspective, 6 of the 71 finishing riders were aboard H-Ds. And one, finishing in 43rd place, was a 2006 Sportster which, as of the finish, now has 258,000 miles on the odometer! The highest finishing H-D was in 14th place, clocking just over 10,500 miles on a 2019 Road Glide.
4 H-Ds were DNFs. One of those had over 9200 miles on it. Not sure what happened to the guy, but that's got to be heartbreaking to ride that much and not finish. A final report on the rally will probably be out later today with details.
Much respect to the IBA crowd and to riders who can compete in rallies like these. I'm more of a moseying type.
