Licence Plate Light Inop

Just bought a 2009 Rocker C with less than 4000 original miles on it . The license plate light is not working at all. Harley wants $419 for the tail light assembly (it's LED and the entire assembly has to be replaced). Any ideas for replacement and still maintain originality? Thinking of a lighted licence plate frame.

Could add a led strip over the light that's not working.

Look for a blown fuse.
Then look under the rear fender for wires missing insulation, if you bottomed out , or rode with a fat chick on the back the wires may have been stripped by the tire, causing the lights to stop working.

Oops, sorry. I didn't remember that the Rocker had the plate on the fender.
You could use lighted license plate bolts like these...

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F222793879800

Or you could attempt to remove and disassemble the existing light if it has to stay original. There are plenty of LED lights that you could put inside of the housing if you can get it apart.

Or there is this...

The picture in the above link shows that the license light is screwed on to the assembly from underneath, but it is off of a 2008 model.

Removed the licence plate assembly by loosening the the fender. Disassembled the tail-light assembly, replaced the led, sealed with silicone..good as new. Alll for <$1.00. Here is picture of the assembly while apart.

Just curious, did you replace the circuit board or just solder in a new LED? Where did you get the components?

The circuit is not needed (way overkill). You will find the led is good (FYI there is a lens over the led), cut the 12vdc oem power wire approx 1" from the license plate assembly and remove it, remove the positive (red) and neg (black) leads from the circuit board, solder a 470 ohm resistor in-line to the positive side of the led looking down at the top of the circuit board (left side of the led), solder the black (neg) lead to the right side of the led, run both positive and negative lead up and through the gasket and solder to 12vdc oem power (red to red, black to black) and install.

When soldering on the left and right side of the led be careful not to solder to the led lens, I placed a piece of scotch tape around the led lens while soldering. I cleaned the entire assembly and used silicone to reseal the big plastic lens enclosure.

Questions or if you need a 470 ohm resistor let me know.
