Softail Classic upgrades

Since getting my bike I have added fork wind deflectors, Trunk in place of Sissy bar, a Flokati seat cover, and a Ultracool thermostat and dual fan assisted oil cooler. Universal 3" baffles are on order.

When the baffles came in I tried removing the old ones, I don't have a garage but the weather was good and I soon discovered I couldn't get them free. I called "Hog Heaven" a local cycle shop and asked what they would charge to do the job. They gave me a $50.00 quote(half our). Took it to them that night so would be cold the next day. Got the bike back 72 hours later. They said the upper slip on took 2 hours to do as the inner fiberglass seamed welded to the muffler. the second took the rest of the time and finally came out in pieces. They stand by their quotes and only charged me the $52.00. I took a 30 can box of Coors light and two bags of pretzels to them. The old baffles are about 16 inches long the new only eight. She is louder when applying the gas but softer when at speed. She has a crackle to her now that wasn't there before. Tomorrow I will take the better half out to give her thumbs up or down.

Well the results are in. Wife agrees the bike is quitter when at speed. She also surprised me by saying the engine was running cooler too. She was not feeling as much heat back on her legs. This was confirmed by how fast the bike cooled off after being parked. Before putting on the oil cooler it took two hours, then only one and a half. Now just one hour. I also gained two moles to the gallon when I added the oil cooler. Guess a cooler engine uses less gas.
