1978 Sportster 1000 - Turn Signals

I just acquired a 78 Sportster 1000 and the turn signals do not flash. The left and right will light up (front and back) when the respective button is pushed but they do not flash. I saw on another forum that a guy claims that the 78 signals do not flash, they are only an indicator. I have not been able to verify this anywhere.

I did find from my manual that the signal flasher relay is in the headlight bucket. I took it out yesterday and have ordered a new one but I am trying to verify if the blinkers are supposed to blink or simply light up when the button is pushed and held.

Thanks, Mike Fulkerson

It only requires a common two prong flasher to fix it.
They should flash, like any other flashers.

Awesome. Thanks for the feedback. I was pretty sure the other guy was not correct but of course I did not want to dispute his knowledge without verifying for myself. It made no sense at all to have a blinker with a flasher rely that would not flash.

I can already tell that I will be spending hours on this site looking for great ideas and mods.

Up until 1990 (?), the button has to remain pressed to flash. Let go, they go out.
