run/stop switch

Hey guys
I noticed something a bit odd or different when starting my new Iron 1200 the last few times. If the bike has set for 2-3 days without being started the fuel pump makes quite a racket when I turn on the run/stop switch. If I have started it already on that day it just makes the normal quiet whirr sound. It has always been a little louder when activated the first time after a day or two but has recently gotten quite a bit louder.Anyone else noticed this on theirs.......?

That would indicate a slow fuel leak down in the system. Fuel pump check valve or leaky pressure regulator, something like that.

It should be a warranty issue if so. Not a big deal if it gets diagnosed quickly.

Side note: What made you trade the RK for the Iron?

Truthfully My buddies and I all wanted Sportsters from the time we started watching "Then Came Bronson" in the late 60s. So .......as I was getting really tired of that overweight 2 wheel bus of a Road King........I decided it was time to trade up to a Sporty. So far I am loving it more every ride,I feel like I'm back on a real motorcycle again. Now true it does not have the power/torque of the King nor the comfort on longer rides but I would not trade back as I am now back on a real bike.

Ahh if you don't smell gas I don't think its a leak. My 2009 dyna has made noise when 1st turning it on occasionally, my cure has been sea foam every tank full just a couple of ounces, at 1st more, then I taper it off . then add a little more if it has been cold or damp. When I park it for the winter 1/2 bottle. there are instruction on the bottle. star trone works too.

Really? Now you are going there?

Yes going there but..........perhaps you misunderstood how I meant it? What I mean is that it is the type bike I learned to ride on. No gismos or gadgets like cruise controls, air shocks, tons of electronics, heat diverters, wind deflectors, throttle by wire etc. just a plain simple motorcycle....[ although I did put a windshield on it].

I knew what you meant, but maybe a better word could've been chosen.

I get it though. I'll eventually want to move up to something else, but I'm not sure I want to be riding a 'glide every day if most of my riding isn't going to be long trips. I ain't poor, but I don't know if I want to have two expensive bikes if one isn't getting ridden a whole lot.
