14' tour-pak question...

3067 Views 7 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  redcad
On my next bike, I want a chopped tour-pak and my wife wants a king tour-pak pad that has the look of a lazyboy.

I have asked the parts guy at HD and he is almost positive that the lids are the same between the two paks. The main difference is going to be, the overall height. The height is not going to be a factor. She just wants the wrap around seat back.

My question is... Are the two lids the same? I know they won't have the same holes in them. I can get over that.

Also, I am not going to be adding the speaker pods to the tour-pak at all.

I'd put just the speaker pods. Then you could crank up the stereo and not listen to the wife bitch about the seat... or anything else.

Done.
Lol. The only thing she has ever complained about (while on the bike) was the seat hurt her backside and she didn't feel stable with just the sissy bar pad. She got spoiled fast when wevtest rode an ultra last year... So did I but, I digress...
The lids are the same I have the chopped tour pack with the small back rest the large wrap around wont fit to tall and looks wrong on the chopped.
If you end up buying a 2014 touring bike, you'll find that the new tour pack looks like a chopped tour packed due to the ratio of height to width.
When I first saw photos of the new 2014 touring bikes I thought the tour pack was smaller. Ends up it actually has a lot more space; 5800 in.³ as opposed to 3800 in.³ for the old King tour pack.
Go take a look at it; it'll give your backseater all the room she wants and more, with a visual appeal of the chopped pack.
We bought a 2014 FLHTK and love it.

I may end up doing just that! They are the same price, so why not?!

True!
Look at it side by side with a pre 13 Tour Pak, it does look much more sleek. I put a detachable one on my Road King and the extra room and comfort is worth it. Then I take it off!
