Whats your thoughts ......... I found a 1996 softail with 10k miles on it couple hours away from home. Older man has had it new but not really did much with it and been sitting in heat and colded garage. He sent me a video of it running but not sure how long it took to get going or if its like new as he says asking price is 6200k. But my thinking ya it has 10k miles on it but been seating for yrs and never drove probably going to have to put tires on it and flush all fluids. Guy said it's like new but nervous about how long it's been sitting. Anyone got option on bikes like this that been just sitting in a shop not rode. Then break them out start having issue just dont want to be 12k in it down the road. Says it the all original never did nothing to it. But ride it.

Looks nice! My first Harley was a 97 Heritage. Be sure to check the tires for dry rotting. Consider an inline fuel filter for a few bucks, slight corrosion in the tank can have you chasing carb problems for years. Great bike to learn some basic wrenching too. Good Luck.

Hi Jesse
from the photos you have posted the bike looks in very good condition the chrome work looks shiny and not pitted or rusted .
Being only a couple of miles away from you I would say get over there and have a good look over the bike ,renewing the tyres ain't gonna cost the earth if ya do your own wrenching well that aint gonna cost ya big bucks either .
In my opinion and just from viewing the photos I would say get over there .
When I sold my Nostalgia I think it had around 9000 miles on it only reason I sold it was I thought I'd got Harley Davidson out of my body .... hahahahahaha Wrong I wished I had kept that still I own a tri glide now and that is a looker

It looks like it is in decent shape. No bike is maintenance-free. If it's the style of bike you'll ride and be happy with, then buy it!
From the asking price it sounds like he's not trying to make a killing off of it.
My neighbor bought a '95 Heritage for $7000 that had twice the mileage and looked a bit rough in comparison to the one you have pictured.
We convinced him to put new tires on it, as well as replace the deteriorated hand grips. He has had it for about 5 or 6 years now and could not be happier.
If you like it, get it. If you are wary, then keep shopping.

Looks pretty nice! I still have my 94' that I bought new. New tires, plugs and possibly carb clean should be all the work. One thing to note on these models is they had a problem with bad base gaskets back then. Check around the bottoms of the jugs for oil. Mine start leaking at about 1,000-2,000 miles. Was under warranty tho', so harley replaced them.

Possibility mice got into some places and chewed wire insulation. Very hard to find just by looking, but if you have electrical problems down the road, you know what to look for. Nice bike, price isn't bad. You take chances with all kinds of things with a bike that has sat for so long. The saddlebags will probably be misshapen, it's natural and there is (was) products to help get them back to shape.

If the original leather bags are in good shape/salvageable, an alternative to buying hardshell replacement bags is getting a set of reinforcement inserts. If you go this route, I would first recondition the leather bags w/saddle soap followed by an application of Neatsfoot oil. Once you've cleaned & conditioned the leather, insert the pieces of the reinforcement kit. Once done, your bags won't sag & will make it easier for you to access & load the original leather bags. You will keep your beautiful Heritage classic & all original, which adds value to you & to potential buyers if you ever decide to sell.

Edit: Here's a nice bag I came across that is a hardshell but is coated w/leather & maintains some of the original looks & integrity (sans fringe though). May be others around, but just to give you some food for thought.

Looks nice. Get service records if you can. Anybody can tell you anything.
Give it a good test ride. Listen for lifter noise, noise coming from the primary, etc. 10k is no miles of the bike is maintained. My 94 FXDL has over 100k on it. If you are new to Harley, beware, those Evo Soft tails were like riding a paint shaker.
