2001 FLSTC. Need A lot of HELP.

3835 Views 31 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  SCHMIDTY
I found a 2001 FLSTC at a local Junkyard, with most of the things missing except the chassis and the Engine.
I am not in the USA, or anywhere near a Harley dealership worth mentioning. We do not have people who know much about repairs & maintenance of a Harley. That said, I still chose to take on the challenge, and imported most of the stuff from the USA. I have now arrived at the wiring, and found there is a "TSSM" fitted. as soon as the ignition is switched on, the Turn Signals start flashing, I am scared to try and bypass the TSSM, for fear of damaging the ECM.
Dont have a Fob. The ignition and the speedometer are used replacements, There is no light on the speedo. Trying to keep this short!
Can anyone help?

The TSSM needs to be installed in it's correct location in the bracket behind the battery box or the BAS will trigger the security feature. Verify the TSSM P/N is 68923-00*.
Thanks for the help. The P/N no is 68920-07

I have done a lot of work on it in the past 6 months, spent a lot of money as well.
With the help from you guys I am sure I will have her up and running soon.

the flashing lights indicate no fob present. there is a proceedure to get the pin number but would have to look it up. the pin number will allow you to start the bike without the fob. first get a service manual, harley not clymer etc., for your model and year. it will be indespensable in your moving forward. welcome aboard from s.e. kansas. stick around. much harley info available on this site. you have already heard from it's most valuable and knowledgeable member, schmidty. glad to have you with us.
Thanks for your reply. Just saw the Youtube Video, that shows how to get the Pin Number,
My problem is that the Speedometer has not kicked in, its a used speedo that I got from the USA. I am sure that the wiring connections are correct, but I have assumed that because of the Alarm from the TSSM the power to the speedo is blocked.
I may be absolutely wrong,
You may not want to consider this, but I believe the fastest, easiest and most cost effective way to get the bike running would be to strip all of the EFI/ECM/TSSM crap off of it, convert to a carb and wire the ignition from scratch. Otherwise, I think your frustration may get the best of you. In any case, I wish you the very best of luck with the project.
Now there's a thought!!!
The bike is a Carb model. this may be the only way out since there isnt a Harley dealership in my country!
No one has the equipment to sync the speedo with the ECM.
Another hurdle you face is changing a speedometer requires use of a H.D. digital tech to synchronize the different speedo to the ECM. Another protection measure so speedometer readings can't be easily changed. I feel your frustration, but you can overcome these "tests".
HD Digital tech here is a Fairytale. Dosent exist.
Although there are a couple of hundred Harleys just in this city, but there isnt a reliable, (let alone qualified) Tech within a thousand miles.

I thank you all for your input and encouragements.
Much appreciated.

That P/N 68920-07 TSSM doesn't match what's supposed to be in your model FLSTC. Your bike shipped new with either 68921-01 TSM or 68925-00D TSSM.
Check the P/N on your ICM, should be 32568-00C.
I will re check the number on the TSSM when I get home, and get back to you. the Pin on the ICM (ECM) is 32568-00A

Dear All
Thanks for all your advice and direction.
Its the weekend and I am about to put the recommendations to the test.
Wish me luck.🤞
Also I'm assuming your bike is a HDI model, that's what I've been checking part numbers on.
Still at it! Looking for a way around the TSSM and the associated gizmo's.
An idea was floated by someone to remove the TSSM, map the Magnetic coil, and add a CDI.
While my electrical knowhow is limited, to the basics, I am looking for the pro's and cons of going ahead with the CDI idea, We have limited resources, not having a dealership is the biggest handicap.
The parts cannot be programmed or synchronized, any new parts required have to be shipped from the USA, at a great cost,
Does anyone have any ideas on the CDI installation, and what may be the drawbacks?
Thanks for your response.
The CDI is still under consideration, since we are still trying to find a way around it without mutilating the entire system.
The advice on from this forum has been a great help and morale booster.
At least there are all of you out there to guide me through this phase of resurrecting the bike.
Thanks.

I am still at it, without any progress to speak of. There are different shades of "Experts" who have had a look at the bike but have yet to offer a solution that dosent scare me.
Now, if I were to take your advice and go for a new Speedo, ECM, and a TSM/TSSM how do I go about it?
No dealership here, Will appreciate all the advice I can get. Atleast I want to do the required homework and have a good idea at hand in case we choose to go that way. Albeit the cost.

Here's a thought, If the bike was fitted with a TSSM, then there would have been a Fob to go with it, which I dont have.
Can it be ordered through Harley?
Hi Everyone;
I am still at it, havent been able to start it so far.
The recent recommendation from a local tech is to get a part no; 68920-07.
According to him, this is a "Non Programable" TSM, and will do the trick.
I called a HD Dealership to ask, and was told that, all and any such part will have to be programed at the Dealership "WITH THE BIKE" another told me that this part is obsolete, and I can only see it on the Ebay.
There is no dealership here, and the bike will not be transported to one.
How do I deal with that?
