Anyone know if you have to use a mounting bracket with throw over bags for a 2001 sft.d. The rear fender hangers appear to not have accessable bolts to attach hangers to. Would you have to drill through them and then bolt brackets to them? Even though they would sit on top of the fender under the rider seat I would not like to have them flopping around and get hung up in the wheel. That probably wouldn't be good huh, lol Tks. for your insights.

There's a plate on the inside of the rear fender that is used to secure the chrome fender struts. The fender is sandwiched between that plate and the chrome fender struts. You could probably fab saddle bag supports that fit in there. It wouldn't be something that could be easily removed.
Why not use EZ Brackets for your bags. They are lockable and the bags can be installed/removed in less than a minute, leaving only a small chrome bracket under the fender struts.

This link is only to show you the brackets, I'm not making a recommedation on the vendor.
