Just have your cylinders bored to 1200.
They can do that..so do I just buy the stock 1200 pistons
get a 1250 kit - pay the extra for fitted rings and get a cometic top end gasket set-
no real difference besides appearance.if your going to use your 883 heads, you`ll want to get dished pistons or your compression will be very high.i would suggest getting a 1250 kit & getting some 1200 heads
Just had a 1250 kit in here to be re-built.
Contacted the outfit and they supplied us with plus .010" pistons.
Bored to within .004" for honing.
Noticed small "dark spots" in the fresh machined cast iron.
Honed them to size, and those spots opened up to a tremendous amount of voids in the bore, so what I saw was .005" on a side between life and death of that engine...........not my idea of a good time.:what?

if i ever get another sportster and grow a pair that have hair - i would go for that big s&s sidewinder 79 kit -its gotta make one nasty sporty when done right-

Just go to 1200. You get stock reliability, and about the same power as 1250. We're only talking 50 cc!!

04 up 1200 heads flow better than the pre 04 1200 heads.

Right on, and you still have a couple over-bores, left, if needed.:)

Yes, you definitely should do this.. I had this done to a sporty I had and I tell you what, it's awesome!!! I had it done to a 99' and the only bad thing was trying to keep the rear tires on it!!
We've built quite a few 88" XL's over the years, using 3 13/16" Axtell cylinders, which btw brings that engine into a square configuration.
Easy to see 110 hp with the torque rolling off at 100 or so.
Combine that with a 27T 883 trans sprocket......point it straight and let it eat.:)

I used to love pulling up to people and they would be talking about how fast their bike was and they would look at my poor old 883 and say "you should get something with a bigger engine in it" I would grin and say yeah you're right. Then we would leave on a ride, after which the same guys would say "is that really a 883" I would just grin!! :)
That's cool...I leave my buddies fxr at the light when we take off
An 883-1200cc XL, set up correctly will REALLY run!!
