I've been getting some DMs about the Road Glide Special so here is a quick review.
Road to the shore today (Pleasant Point Beach), about 150 miles round trip. There are some things on the Road Glide Special that Stood out.
I am coming of a 2014 Street Glide Special. At the peak Of my mods On the SGS I had:
v&h Monster Rounds
v&h X-Pipe
Screamin Eagle Air Cleaner
Pro Tuner (Screamin Eagle)
Screamin Eagle High Cap Oil Pan
Boom Audio Lids and Fairing Speakers
boom Audio Amp
Ran Synthetic Oil
The first thing I noticed on the Road Glide was how I never needed 6th Gear, I know the SG and RG are basically the same bike, but I was cruising at 75mph in 5th at about 2500rpm and If I went to 6th I was basically feeling like it wanted to stall out on me.
On my SG I remember staying in 6th gear at all times in speeds in excess of 70mph.
Also it accelerated well up to 90mph but getting to 100mph was taking too long.
My SG with the upgrades you see listed reached 110mph as quick as the RGS hit 90mph, atleast thats what I felt. I look forward to tuning the bike with the SE Tuner, pipes, slip-ons and oil to see how it feels then, but overall acceleration was solid.
The steering was easy on the RGS, on the SG everything on the fairing is on the handlebars, and although steering a Street Glide is easy as well, especially with 12 inch Yaffe Monkey Bars I had on the bike, the RGS was easier...
There was no buffering at all it has 3 vents and you can even see the road in front of you thru the vents.
I have a few complaints that are Road Glide specific.
On my SGS no matter what time it was, where I was, or where the sun was I could see my Navigation clear as day...on the Road Glide the GPS display sits way higher and because of that the sun makes it hard to see the display...even with the brightness all the way up.
Also the screen is super far away from your body, on the SG it is right there in front of you. It is super easy to touch anything on the display without reaching out...on the Road Glide I am full arm extended reaching for the display with my finger tips. I am 6 feet tall and have pretty good reach, and if I cant really reach the display I am sure others will have problems also.
The stock speakers are garbage.
When you power on the bike, no matter what setting you had last, the radio comes on at full blast. Super annoying, but this happens on SGs also.
Overall I am happy I switched. I love the look of the bike, and I cant wait to start customizing it.
Thanks for reading.
